2017 Cheyney University Pitch Competition

Mission

The mission of the CU Pitch Competition is to help college students develop their oral communication and public speaking skills to express an idea in a clear, concise, and compelling manner by stating why the topic is important, how they are using a distinctive approach to address it, and what the impact will be if they are successful.

Competition Guidelines

  • Elevator pitch competition is open to Cheyney and HBCU Hospitality Management Consortium students who attend the Cheyney University (CU) Entrepreneurship EXPO & Pitch Competition on Thursday, April 6, 2017. 
  • Students submit a business idea summary and a YouTube video of their pitch by Friday, March 31st which is evaluated by a committee of judges.
  • Top finalists will be invited to present their Elevator Pitch at the CU Entrepreneurship EXPO & Pitch Competition on Thursday, April 6th.

Contest Rules

Pitches must be no longer than 3 minutes.  There is a strict time limit and participants will be stopped at the 3-minute mark.

Judging Criteria

  • Pitch an innovative business idea with one slide
  • The pitch will address the following:
    • Problem or opportunity
    • Solution or proposal
    • Expected outcome (i.e. impact or money)
  • Contestants will be judged on the following:
    • Convincing statement of the problem
    • Exhibited expertise
    • Broader impact of technology
    • Visual design of the slide
    • Effective use of time
    • Poise/style

Prizes will be awarded.
